I've Been Window Shopping Again

I went out the other day with my neighbor Kim after a much needed Birthday lunch with the girls! We went to At Home. It hasn't been around these parts very long, but it's a great store for just about anything you could think of! Check out some of my finds!

This mirror was probably my favorite find! My friend standing by the mirror is prob 5'9" just to give you a point of reference. I've seen similar mirrors from big name design stores for easily TRIPLE the amount. This bad boy was only $199!!!

I love the shape of this mirror. The curves are beautiful. It is exactly what I have been looking for for above my dresser. At only $99, it's definitely on my radar!

This soft pink beauty is ideal for any little girl's room or even a bathroom.

This grayish, bluish, gunmetal, distressed beauty, would be perfect for above my BED! I love me a good mirror.

Do I even need to explain why this little lovely was added to the list? Gold, curves, detail. Nough said.

I couldn't resist this modern, zebra wood, white pleather, pedestal, swivel chair. Did I mention it's also super comfy? I think it will be the perfect addition to my guest room/office makeover!

Last, but not least, my shadow. We're connected at the hip, she and I.

What have you been window shopping for?

Remember When

Remember that one time . . .? This seems to be a quote that The Hubs and I use a lot. We generally don’t use it years down the road, but immediately after something really funny, sad, random or even ridiculously crazy happens. Example. “Hey hun, remember that one time we bet my curtains on our March Madness Brackets because you hated the curtains and you lost!?!” That’s what I said to him as soon as I found out my bracket kicked his bracket’s trash and I got to keep my curtains that I love. hehe. Anywho. . . Remember that one time I showed you this picture

and then nothing happened with it? Well, something happened with it. Here’s what.

So here’s the story with this dresser. My in laws live in a nicer neighborhood than we do. To be expected right? Well with said nicer neighborhood, comes nicer bulk trash. Can you see where I’m going with this? Well one day I was driving to their house and spotted this dresser on the side of the road. Surely they can’t be getting rid of that dresser! Who would put that dresser out on the curb for the garbage man to haul away with his backhoe and giant garbage crushing truck!?! Someone with nicer things than me that considers and vintage Lane dresser with it’s beautiful dovetail drawers and solid wood construction, garbage. That’s who! So while The Hubs was away, I borrowed his sexy truck and enlisted the help of my amazing SIL. We made sure the owners were in fact planning on getting rid of it and loaded it up. The knobs were falling apart and one of the drawers was missing it’s track so it just hung out in the drawer compartment but still works. I LOVE it. And it turned out so pretty too! It’s fabulous what some paint, new knobs and some wood filler will do for such a sad dresser. Here are a few more before and after photos.

You may have also noticed that I have painted the walls as well. They were baby blue. (supposed to be grey originally but it came out blue) So I finally forked out the money to buy my favorite greige (BM Edgecomb Gray) and painted while The Hubs was away one Saturday. It made a HUGE difference as well.

I know it’s hard to tell, but it’s not white. If you read yesterday’s post about my mint green lamps, THAT is what color the dresser is. For whatever reason, I wasn’t able to get the color to translate into pictures. Oh well. I love it. My 3 y/o loves it and The Hubs said it looks nice. Win. Win. Win. Guess what. It's bulk trash there again this week. The Hubs should be afraid. VERY afraid.

Good Deal

In light of recent events moving into the house and all, I have been going crazy wanting to add personal touches everywhere. One place that I was able to personalize a bit was my Master Closet. I added a chic light fixture that I found at Lowes

The best part?
The sticker price is $99. I paid half! "On sale?" you ask. Not really. It was an extra display light that they didn't have room for and didn't have a sticker. So the department head told me I could have it for half! WHOO HOO!! Yes Please!

I already has this light from Ikea, but it hung too low.

It was a Housewarming gift from my Brother and Grandparents and I couldn't just return it without getting something just as pleasing. Hence the new light. I love this one so much more. I'll post pictures of the actual closet when I finish it, so these stock photos will have to do for now.

Desk Chair

Since I finished my desk I knew we needed a desk chair for 2 reasons. (2 seems like my magic number for reasons) 1. We needed a desk chair 2. My hubby accidentally broke the dining chair we had been using because he was leaning back on the rear legs. I'm assuming when the chair snapped his mother's voice saying, "Don't lean back in your chair" was echoing in his head as he picked himself up off of the floor. hehehe! So I searched many places for inspiration and found this.

At our beloved PB it is $399.00. Seeing as we've been saving for a house, 400 buck on a desk chair is not going to fly! So I searched the classifieds on KSL and found this beauty for $25.
I was able to snag it for the amazing price of $15. The lady had it posted for a while and I'm assuming that's why she let it go for so cheap. It was the perfect chair. Even rocks back to satisfy my hubby's need to lean back. I took the same steps with the chair as I did with my desk that I redid, except I painted this in my bedroom using grocery sacks as my floor cover.
:) Primed and painted. I absolutely love how it turned out. Since I already had the primer and paint from the desk, this chair cost $15 plus whatever I used in gas to pick it up. Way worth it!

The Desk

I found this beauty at DI (local thrift store) for $10. When I saw it I knew it HAD to be mine for 2 reasons. 1. It is awesome and perfect for our computer desk. 2. It looks exactly like a desk that my dad had growing up that my 4 siblings and I have argued about who gets it when the time comes. Horrible I know, but for some reason we just love that desk. When I found this one I decided it could take the place of that one. . . for now. :) I took it out to the little patio at my apartment, primed and painted. I decided to prime rather than sand because I did not yet have a palm sander and didn't want to wait until I got one. I decided to keep the original hardware because it gave it a bit of character that a lot of new hardware doesn't have for a piece like this. It turned out to well and I love it! The chair I found on KSL goes perfectly as well.

1917 Door Conversion

I found 2 of these doors online and couldn't help myself. I convinced my husband to take me to pick them up. They were both original doors from a house built in 1917. I could only imagine the possibilities. While surfing in blogland I happened upon a blog with the idea to make a coatrack. (By "happened upon" I mean my friend called and said "Ashley I have the perfect idea!") So I began the hunt for the perfect paper or fabric to cover the panels with. I ended up with this fabric that I found at Hancock in the clearance section! It practically sang to me. I cut the fabric to fit the panels and used modpodge to adhere them to the door.

I found the hooks at Home Depot and screwed those in place after the modpodge was completely dry. To finish off the edge around the fabric I hot glued some decorative rope to cover the edges.

For the finishing touch I attached the original glass knob. Because it was only one sided I used a bit of Gorilla Glue and vooala! My Masterpiece.
I recently finished the 2nd door that I had. I did the same thing with it.

Gold Mirror

I found this mirror online for $3! I couldn't resist the impusle to make it mine. I knew exactly what I was going to do with it. Once I got it home, I took it apart and cleaned it. (Projects turn out better when the specimen is clean to begin with) I painted the frame with an off-white spray paint. While that was drying I put a coat of primer on the mirror. I ended up needing about 3 coats of primer to completely cover the mirror. Then I applied 2 coats of chalkboard paint and put everything back together. After I hung it on the wall I realized that the off-white I had picked out was almost identical to my wall color. . . I had to do something!/span> I remembered that I had a can of Dark Walnut MINWAX stain under my kitchen sink. I applied a layer to add some dimension and voowalah! My framed chalkboard!
