My Mother's Technique

I have an age old trick for packing that seems so simple, you would think everyone would do it for EVERY trip they ever took. My mother taught me this years ago by packing our clothes like this when I was young. It keeps things organized and hassle free. This weekend, my boys and I are traveling to a land far far away to spend time together and be one with nature. (In this family that translates to, "I have an elk tag a couple hrs away and will be gone until said tag is filled or I run out of vacation days." That's how we get our free range, hormone and chemicle free, organic meat.) Anyway... Little #3 will be spending the weekend at Grandma's. To help keep things streamlined and easy peasy for Grandma, I used my mother's technique.

A ziploc bag per day, jams, a caboodle and her (current) favorite toy.

Each bag has the same items. A shirt, pants, shoes and a bow.

Then each bag is marked with the day. Sunday has a bag marked "Sunday Church" and one marked "Sunday Play". This is so fantastic because Grandma literally just has to reach in and grab the bag of the day. No stressing about whether or not it matches or if it is what Mom would have chosen. At the end of the day, just return the dirty clothes to the bag! The best thing about it is that it ensures that you have packed enough clothes and have everything you might need while away from home. I hope this helps someone's life get a little easier the next time they travel. It's been a life saver for me! Thanks mom!

Sewing Jar

I’ve been seeing these little jars all over blogland and while sewing last night I decided to make one. Found some scrap fabric, stuffing, glue gun and scissors. Here’s how I did it in pictures. (If you have any specific questions just let me know.) It was super easy and I already love the new addition to my lil craft room.

Fill it with button and some thread, stick a few needles in the top and viola! You have a new sewing jar that is portable nonetheless! The best part is that you can customize it to match your space. Now get cracking and make a jar for yourself!

Debbie Does Creations

I've been trying to decide what to hang on the walls in my new craft room. I've got a few things in mind, but when I talked to my sis about it, she told me about this fabulous thread holder that she pinned from Craptastic.
First of all, I have to say that I LOVE the blog name; CRAPTASTIC. I mean that's friggin awesome. hehe.
Anywho, here's the project.

Notice the shape of the nails? It's an "H". So cute.

What a terrific idea. Plywood and some nails? Who doesn't have those things laying around? I know I do and I'm sure gonna have one of these. On top of functionality, it has limitless possibilities for the design. It could be cut into any shape and painted or stained with any color or design. Get craftin!

Staging a Nightstand

I have recently been struggling with how to stage my nightstand. It is a place that I can "stage" and not have to worry about it getting messed up by everyday life. I feel like every time I move something or try to rearrange it, it just looks weird. I've figured out that when it comes to the nightstand, this is a place to add interest and pizzazz to a room! Pictures, mirrors, flowers, lamps and trinket trays. Here are some beautifully staged nightstands that will hopefully help me get the job done!

Another thing that I like about nightstands is that the accessories can seem random, but organized at the same time.
Is your nightstand staged?

Sarah Pinto

On my most recent visit to Deliciously Organized, there was a giveaway (now closed), featuring Sarah Pinto planners. Anyone that knows me well, knows that I LOVE notebooks and planners. I'm somewhat of a collector of cute notebooks and journals. Do I use one all up before I start on a new one? . . . Of course not! If I find one I like better (or that just suits my current mood better) I'll switch cold turkey.

So when I saw the modern designs on the Sarah Pinto planners AND notebooks, I about had a heart attack! THEN I discovered that a portion of her proceeds go to a cause that is near and dear to her heart. (and mine) She donates it to Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. Her little boy was born with heart problems and has had heart surgeries since day 2 of his precious life. Having a cousin that went through the same thing that recently passed away, made the decision to get one of these AH-MAZING planners a total no-brainer. Now I just HAVE to have one.

They are affordable and look like they'd totally be worth every penny!

I'm getting mine. Are you getting yours!?!

Blog Books

So a few weeks back my SISTER and I found ourselves talking about books that you can have printed through flickr or Snapfish etc. She told me about the greatest thing EVER! It's called BLURB. If you haven't heard of it, awesome: I'll be the one to let you know. If you have heard of it then you already know how ridiculously amazing it is! Using the BookSmart feature, it uploads you blog and puts it into a book for you. That's not even the BEST PART! If you had a post that you didn't add all of the pictures on for fear of driving people away or a 10 page post, you can add them.
You can add text.
You can edit the font.
You can rearrange the pages.
You can add page breaks where you want them.
You can combine posts to one page.
You can make a book of particular years (what I did) or a book that is a complete compilation of your blog to date. The list goes on and on!  It is such a great way to ORGANIZE your blog/pictures/stories/journal. The prices are really reasonable as well. I have been wanting to find someway to print my family blog since it has turned into my journal of sorts. Obviously printing it outright would take a lot of time and A LOT of money for the paper and ink. Plus it wouldn't be near the quality of a hard bound book. I am so excited about this new find and can't wait to finish my books! Head on over there and check it out!

Space Savers!

So we're coming up on moving day and I wanted to get things a little organized. I realized that I had a changing table full of clothes that neither of my boys wear. Either because they're too small or it's the wrong season. I also have quite a few boxes that are filled with little boys' clothes. What to do? What to do? I don't want to sell them or give them away because I'm still young and you just never know. no I'm not making an announcement So I started thinking of different places in the new house that I could keep them. I even talked to my SIL about having all these baby clothes. My awesome lil niece piped up and said, "What about those big plastic vacuum bags that sucks all the air out?" DUH!!! Of Course! the Space Bags! So I hurried over to Wally-World and grabbed a 3 pack of the Large bags for only 15 bucks! about 20 minutes after getting home I was able to turn the mess of the changing table and a large storage tote full of clothes, into a large storage tote full of twice as many clothes! My new best friend when it comes to storing out of season clothing and all of those extra blankets I can't part with, but aren't using.
My Space bags weren't quite as flat as they advertise cause I crammed it!
Have the same problem? Run out and getcha some! Good luck with your Spring/Summer cleaning!
