HELP!
So I need some help. I've finally received permission to paint the cabinets in my kitchen. Yes permission. This is a huge improvement from when we moved in. "Your painting the wood in this house over my dead body." Remember this post? So. HUGE milestone for The Hubs. Anywho. WHAT COLOR!?! My initial reaction is the obvious choice. White. My major hesitation? My pink counters. Have a look.
(don't judge. this is before we moved in. hadn't painted or replaced flooring yet.)
See my problem? Right now they aren't THAT noticeable. If I paint the cabinets, however, they'll stand out like a nun in a bar. Because the kitchen is the LAST thing on our Honey-Do list, replacing them isn't an option yet. We'll do that when we can renovate the whole kitchen. So. Do I embrace them and go with white? Leave them cause it's better that they don't stand out? Do something like grey or a color? I need help.
An Addition
All my life I've been a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl. In high school, I lived on the wild side and wore polos, blazers and khakis. In an effort to revamp my wardrobe and discover "my style", I've been following some great fashion blogs to get ideas. During my search a long long time ago, I found myself drooling on my computer desk over this. . .
Completely drool worthy right? A lovely striped number paired with nude pumps and pastel pink. Sigh. Cori at laviepetite has impeccable taste in clothing. I figured her style was a good place to start when it came to my style revamp.
Well me and all my stubbornness, I decided I was going to set out and make my own drool worthy navy blue and white striped awning skirt. (holy run on sentence) My sewing skills are not yet that of miss Cori, but you've gotta start somewhere right? So I found a pattern and purchased the material. (Insert 10 months of procrastination) On a trip to Idaho/Montana to visit family for 2 weeks, I didn't bring a skirt. (knowing full well we'd be going to church at least once) I did, however, bring my material, pattern, scissors, pins, zipper and buttons. About 2:30 a.m. Saturday night I finished my skirt. Talk about waiting til the last minute. Here's what I came up with.

Because I'm starting to experiment more with color and patterns in my clothing, I decided to just copy her complete look until I'm more comfortable. As luck would have it, I forgot my white cardi so I wore my green one instead and absolutely love the change!
I'm grateful you cannot see up close, because the construction is less than perfection. For my first piece of handmade clothing, I think it turned out lovely. The best part? It has POCKETS! I friggin love the pockets!
Along the way I learned a few things.
1. When making a piece of clothing, don't just take the patterns word for it. You have to take your measurements into consideration. (My skirt ended up being too big because I didn't custom make it to my body.)
2. If you have a question about the instructions. . . ASK! Someone. Anyone that might be able to help. There was a section of the instructions that was incomplete. They forgot to include how to attach the waistband to the bottom of the skirt. Seems like a no brainer. It wasn't! I was so glad my mom was there to help me improvise.
3. Your first piece of handmade clothing will NOT be constructed perfectly, so try again. Like sewing other things (blankets, curtains, etc.) you get better and better with each item. You learn tricks and tips along the way. Things you wish you had known before you started, but that can only be learned through experience.
4. Finish it! You can never hone your skills if you don't ever complete your projects.

Remember When
Remember that one time . . .? This seems to be a quote that The Hubs and I use a lot. We generally don’t use it years down the road, but immediately after something really funny, sad, random or even ridiculously crazy happens. Example. “Hey hun, remember that one time we bet my curtains on our March Madness Brackets because you hated the curtains and you lost!?!” That’s what I said to him as soon as I found out my bracket kicked his bracket’s trash and I got to keep my curtains that I love. hehe. Anywho. . . Remember that one time I showed you this picture
and then nothing happened with it? Well, something happened with it. Here’s what.
So here’s the story with this dresser. My in laws live in a nicer neighborhood than we do. To be expected right? Well with said nicer neighborhood, comes nicer bulk trash. Can you see where I’m going with this? Well one day I was driving to their house and spotted this dresser on the side of the road. Surely they can’t be getting rid of that dresser! Who would put that dresser out on the curb for the garbage man to haul away with his backhoe and giant garbage crushing truck!?! Someone with nicer things than me that considers and vintage Lane dresser with it’s beautiful dovetail drawers and solid wood construction, garbage. That’s who! So while The Hubs was away, I borrowed his sexy truck and enlisted the help of my amazing SIL. We made sure the owners were in fact planning on getting rid of it and loaded it up. The knobs were falling apart and one of the drawers was missing it’s track so it just hung out in the drawer compartment but still works. I LOVE it. And it turned out so pretty too! It’s fabulous what some paint, new knobs and some wood filler will do for such a sad dresser. Here are a few more before and after photos.
You may have also noticed that I have painted the walls as well. They were baby blue. (supposed to be grey originally but it came out blue) So I finally forked out the money to buy my favorite greige (BM Edgecomb Gray) and painted while The Hubs was away one Saturday. It made a HUGE difference as well.
I know it’s hard to tell, but it’s not white. If you read yesterday’s post about my mint green lamps, THAT is what color the dresser is. For whatever reason, I wasn’t able to get the color to translate into pictures. Oh well. I love it. My 3 y/o loves it and The Hubs said it looks nice. Win. Win. Win. Guess what. It's bulk trash there again this week. The Hubs should be afraid. VERY afraid.

Back in the Saddle
I feel like I’ve been in a project rut lately. Part of that had to do with a rut I was in in real life (as opposed to craft life). So I got out of my funk, and started up my creative thinking again. First thing’s first, I put together a mood board for my Master Bedroom. Surprise surprise, I tweaked it a bit from the one I posed here. I pinned my new one here via the Olioboard I made for it. Which btw is my new favorite toy! Did I mention, it’s FREE!?! check it out. BUT FIRST, check out my first project for my boudoir starting with the inspiration picture.
It’s an absolutely GORGEOUS lamp and it ought to be for $362.50. Yup! You heard me! $362.50 USD! Just a tad out of my price range, but the color combo of the mint gold and whatever color the shade is. For a long while now I’ve been working on finding the perfect shape for bed side lamps and settled on Ginger Jar lamps and a favorite. If any of you have looked into these, then you know how pricey they can be like this from Etsy, or these also from Etsy. Not gonna happen. So I found these at a local thrift store. Not an exact match, but I knew I’d be painting them anyway so they were close enough. This is what I ended up with.
The best part about the set? It was $10.86 for the pair! I LOVE thrifting!
I know the shade isn’t an exact match to the inspiration. And I know that the grey stripe will probably bother a lot of you when you first see it. Trust me, I know! I kept texting my sister and a few friends to see what they honestly thought because it was bugging me. Then I decided that I probably didn’t like it because it was so out of my comfort zone. “You CAN’T mix GREY and GOLD!!! It CAN’T be done!!!” Well I tell yo uthat IT CAN! The more I see it, the more I just love it! It was a good first step to take me out of my box and take me towards a more eclectic un-matchy room. I can’t wait to do more!

A Tisket, A Tasket. . .
I get a new bike basket! For my birthday my mom got me the coolest cruiser bike. Since then, my little family and I go for bike rides very often. I've realized that it is difficult to carry my phone, water bottle, keys and/or garage door opener. Problem solver? A basket. Duh! So yesterday evening when we were heading out to the in-laws, I still hadn't received my Mother's Day gift. (not important that I get one, but I knew I was getting one so the anticipation was killing me) My oldest little, Hunter, was holding my card and he says, "Mommy, this is your card, but we can't let you see your bike basket!" haha. The hubs came running out and said, "Bubba, I can't tell you anything!" I was so excited, but acted oh so surprised when I opened the card. You see, The Hubs is worried about purchasing the wrong thing. So instead of knowing I want a basket and picking one out, he prints a picture of the thing and gives me the picture. As if he's saying, "See I paid attention. I know this is something you really want, BUT I also know that because you really want one, you already have one in mind. Since I don't want to disappoint you, this is your gift, but I'll let you pick it out." What a smart sweet hubby I have. Anywho. . . here are the baskets I've been looking at.
I'm leaning towards #1 and #5. I'll post pics as soon as I decide and it arrives. :)
Master Bedroom Mood Board
This is my first attempt at an actual mood board so forgive me if it seems a bit amateurish. I feel like I’m finally making progress on my Master since my color revelation. I can’t wait to put my vision to the test. What do you think?
