I couldn't help but share this. I've known Many from Dash it All since we were little and she has grown into quite the woman. She's freakin funny to boot. The Neatest Little Thing

Do you ever have one of the AH HA! moments that are also DUH moments? I had one this morning. So this whole DIY thing is totally trial and error. I started putting up board and batten in my bathroom MONTHS ago. . . I ran out of boards so I went and got what I needed. Guess what, it's still. not. done. Wanna know why? Well here's the thing, I don't have a nail gun and I wasn't about to go buy one just for my little bathroom. So I bout a box of finishing nails and decided I could do this the old fashion way. Well the result was either banged up mdf from trying to get the nails in far enough, OR the nails were sticking out. Well awesome option #2 is what I got. Then today. . . I discovered THIS

Ummm. HELLOOOOO! Why did nobody tell me about this!?! It recesses the nails so you can fill in with wood filler and finish off the project. Love. Best part; a set of 3 different sizes was $1.98. So hopefully you'll be seeing that finished project soon. Until then, a bientot.

Something Old

I have had this file cabinet finished and in use for a looooooong time now. Apparently I never got around to blogging about it. It was my way of diving in to the chevron craze. Anywho. . . here's the Before, process and After in pictures.

Primed the sucker after I cleaned it really well.

I cut out a chevron pattern that I found online and taped it to the top. (it would probably have been waaaay easier to cut vinyl and use that, but I don't have a vinyl cutter. sad.)

I can't seem to find a TRUE After photo. Ya know, the one where I touched it up, added hardware and made it look fabulous. Yeah. That one. Anywho. I added some shiny chrome handles by Martha Stewart via Home Depot and it added just the right touch. The reason I finally got around to posting about it is because I'm in the works of replacing it with something old and beautiful! We'll see how it all pans out.

I love the juxtaposition of the rustic cowhide paired with the sleekness of the gold cart and green glass. It’s very clean but definitely lets you know that this home and it’s owners have some personality.

Side note: I love the little hints of color in the kitchen (and throughout the house). They add just enough interest without overwhelming your brain with too many things to process.

Putting Color to Use!

Don't forget that color looks best when paired with some neutrals for a little visual relief. If you go wild on the walls or with your upholstery, pull back a little on the rugs or curtains or vice versa. Each room can definitely have its own color palette, but think of your home as a whole, with each room transitioning to the next. Some tricks: go for fairly neutral hues in hallways, or add some colors from one room into the neighboring room, even in the form of accessories or fabrics.

Putting Your Style to Work!

With your style and needs in mind, here are a few tips that will help you make your home a little happier.

1. Your Design Challenge: UNIFYThe good news is, you probably have many things you love and have collected, and no one would ever say your home is boring! You've done the hard part; now you just need to pull it all together. If your furniture seems like a mish-mash, unify it through similar upholsters or slipcovers. When grouping objects, try to find something they have in common. If they share a shape, color or material, they will look like a collection. A tray is every decorator's secret weapon for making groups of small objects look purposeful and sculptural. If your accessories are all over the map, try subduing the upholstery or wall color, so your small items are the stars.
2. Your Happy PlaceMake this room as comfortable and inviting as possible by bringing in some real furniture like an armchair or a sofa if you have the space. A little lamp on the counter or decorative hanging light can set the mood. Stools are great perches and can easily be moved around. Don't forget to bring your personality and style into this room: hang some art or display a collection of family photos in mixed frames. Consider bold, happy colors in the kitchen as well, like brightly colored pots and pans, big bowls for corralling fruits and vegetables, and trays for spices, oils, teas and pepper mills.
3. Be Party-Ready All the Time!Scent: The first thing you notice about a home is how it smells. Use naturally fragrant cleaning products. If you find a scented candle or fresh potpourri you love, stock up on it. Any scent you like, whether perfume or linen spray, can be used on upholstery, bedding or just spritzed into the air.

Mood: Nice, flattering light makes us feel good. So nix the harsh, direct light from overhead fixtures in favor of the softer glow from floor and table lamps. Also, stock up on some votive candles and a couple of hurricane lanterns for setting around the room.

Food: Devote space in your pantry or on a shelf for go-to party essentials: crackers, dip, chips, nuts—whatever you like to serve. Keep on hand a collection of attractive bowls and cocktail napkins, and you'll be able to set a spread—instantly!

Drink: The simplest and chicest thing is to have a drinks tray or table always set up. Include a mix of pretty glasses, an ice bucket, a lovely pitcher, and bottles of soda and water. When the bell rings, just add ice and limes.
